well, for the first time in a long time i made to Croxleys after work. even got a few good laughs out of the night as well.
as i was leaving work, some of the warehouse guys were hanging out front of the building. they were surprised see me leave before 2 am. I told where i was going and that it was 10 cent wing night. they were all ears on the deal and wanted to come along, so i told to follow me and i got the first round of pints.
we get 2 blocks, and one of the guys tells me he has to stop for gas. i told him to hurry up , as it's 24:30 and the kitchen closes at 01:00. he fills up and we are on the move. a few NYPD cars on the Cross Island slow us down a bit, but we do make it by 00:45. this is when it gets entertaining, at least for me. we sit down at the booth and i tell them it's 10 cents a wing, but a minimum order of 20 wings. they're all "cool" great" and so on. I ask them what they want to drink, and they all respond with, " oh, we don't want to drink, we just want the wings to take home". so now i need to clarify that it an "in bar" promo only, and that the idea is to sell hot wings so people buy BEER.
this blows their bubble, as most of these guys live in Brooklyn. i tell them my offer on the first round still stands and they should stay and get at least one order of wings. they opt to leave. oh well.
fortunately some of the colleagues in the passenger service department were also driving down as well. one guy, being a big shot, says he doesn't need my directions as he has a GPS system and only needs the address of the place. I give him both and tell him to hurry up as i just ordered 80 wings for the 5 of us. the first one to arrive was my friend Steve, who just use my directions. about 10 minutes later i get a call from the big shot, who is lost but at the correct address , only in a different town. I told him it is in Franklin Square and he needs to drive 2 miles south on New Hyde park road. 10 minutes later and 20 wings less he arrive with the rest of the gang.
great time had by all, and we closed up shop @ 03:00. now that i have had my 3rd cuppa tea, i am ready to get out of here and enjoy the day with my daughter in Eisenhower Park.
